Laurence is a playable character in Fire Emblem: World at War. He is a thief that used to be in service of Artemis in Jirard, but joined Vagmire in a desperate hope to gain money. He has a very greedy personality, but also has a tendency to flirt with women uncontrollably and shy away from his duties.

His birthday is August 7th.

In-Game Edit

Unit Data Edit

At first, Laurence functions as both a utility unit and an offensive unit, as he starts with a Lockpick in his inventory and can open doors and chests without keys, but also has his Strength and Speed. He also starts with a Killing Edge, which means he will often land critical hits on his enemies.

Laurence joins in Chapter 6 as an enemy unit and must be talked with Christopher to be recruited. Recruiting him is tricky, as he is able to move past the two Knights guarding the castle's entrance, and his Killing Edge will deal a lot on his enemies.

Laurence's affinity is the Fire affinity, meaning whoever he supports will gain in Strength. This is good for Laurence, as his starting defensive stats make him a squishy target, so supporting him with heavy-hitters is a good idea as they can easily guard Laurence from attacks.

  • Laurence, Skilled Assassin

Laurence returned to his hometown of Jirard after the war. There, he gave up on the thieving business to start a new life in a nice home. Records show he still flirted with the ladies, however.

Etymology Edit

Laurence comes from the Roman cognomen Laurentius, which meant "from Laurentum". Laurentum was a city in ancient Italy, its name probably deriving from Latin laurus "laurel". Saint Laurence was a 3rd-century deacon and martyr from Rome. According to tradition he was roasted alive on a gridiron because, when ordered to hand over the church's treasures, he presented the sick and poor. Due to the saint's popularity, the name came into general use in the Christian world (in various spellings).
